Outreach at the Gibbes

Access
The Gibbes Museum of Art is dedicated to making exhibitions and public programs accessible to all audiences including the visually impaired. As part of our commitment to this community, the Gibbes has launched Access, a program for low-vision and blind audiences that includes large-print labels and wall text available in our galleries and a large print option on our web site which makes standard web pages easier to read. The Hands On! exhibition in the museum was created to increase access to the arts for the visually impaired and to provide visitors the opportunity to experience art through the sense of touch. By handling these objects, the dynamic and rich textures of painting, visceral qualities of sculpture, and fine lines of etching can be enjoyed by an important part of the arts community.
