Outreach at the Gibbes
With the support of grants, private donations, and museum funds, the Gibbes offers a number of programs designed to increase access to the Museum. Outreach programs are a part of the Museum’s institutional investment to diversify museum audiences, while providing quality arts programming to children, families, youth, and seniors throughout the Tri-County area.
Access
The Gibbes Museum of Art is dedicated to making exhibitions and public programs
accessible to all audiences. This includes the visually impaired. As part of
our commitment to this community, The Gibbes has launched Access,
a program for low-vision and blind audiences. Stage 1, to be launched in early
2007, includes the creation of large-print labels and wall text available in
our galleries for all exhibitions and a large print option for our web site
which makes standard web pages easier to read. Future components of the program
will include: a traveling touch collection; accessibility tours; Braille art
books for loan to local and state-wide educators; and arts classes for the
visually impaired.
Gibbes Art to Go
Gibbes Art to Go is a FREE collaborative outreach program dedicated
to bringing the arts to all Lowcountry residents. This single or multi-visit
series of interdisciplinary, hands-on workshops is designed to address the
constituencies served by the partnering organizations. The goal is to work with Title One schools, senior centers, community-based organizations in the Tri-county area to bring the visual arts to diverse audiences.
