Ann Gascoigne (Mrs. Thomas Gadsden)

Artist: Smart, John
Date: before 1766

The daughter of Admiral Gascoigne, Ann married Thomas Gadsden in London in 1766 and came with him to Charles Town. Following his death she married Andrew Lord in 1770 and again, in 1796, William Greenwood. She is buried in St. Philip's Churchyard.

The coloring is more delicate than the Admiral's portrait, but the handling is similarly direct.
