Dr. William Bones Crawford

Crawford was a physician from Winnsboro, SC, who moved to Mobile, AL, where he was married in 1842. Due to poor health he went to Paris, and finally settled in Malaga, Spain, where he died. The portrait shows a pensive young man ca. 1840. It is painted on an oddly shaped piece of ivory and some of the details of the hair have been scratched onto the surface.
