Virtual Art Auction

Give Back to the Gibbes art auction, August 26-28

BID NOW

Give Back to the Gibbes is a three-day virtual art auction organized by The Gibbes Museum of Art's Society 1858 auxiliary. The presenter each year of the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art, Society 1858 is a dedicated group of dynamic, young professionals who support the Gibbes Museum of Art. Proceeds from Give Back to the Gibbes will provide critical operating support to the Museum which, over the past few months, has experienced reduced attendance, temporary closures and cancellation of fundraising events such as its annual Gibbes on the Street party, weddings, and other functions that generate important revenues. Supporting the Gibbes through this virtual art auction will help to provide funding for exhibitions and programming that are so vital to our mission.

Subscribe to our e-newsletter! to stay informed about the Give Back to the Gibbes auction. You will receive regular updates and a link closer to the auction dates where you can preregister so you're ready to bid!

Get to Know Society 1858

Society 1858 takes its name from the year that the Carolina Art Association was established. Although the Gibbes Museum of Art opened its doors in 1905, the museum's art collection began in 1858. In 2014, Society 1858 established the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art, which awards $10,000 to an artist whose work contributes to a new understanding of art in the South. Presented annually, the prize recognizes the highest level of artistic achievement in any media. The group has raised over $230,000 through educational programs and events.
