Meet storybook illustrator Timothy Banks during this fun and interactive workshop perfect for ages 5 and up. Tim will give a brief presentation about his work as an illustrator. He’ll read selections from Monsters in Charleston and present a hands-on activity inspired by illustrations in the book.

This program is presented and moderated by Clare Pernice, who will lead the activity for kids and families. Clare is the children’s programs consultant at the Museum of Illustration in New York City, where she runs children’s illustration workshops.

Timothy Banks is an American illustrator and author recognized by Society of Illustrators New York and Los Angeles, Spectrum, 3x3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly, PLAY! Illustration and Showcase 100. He has also had the pleasure of working with Nike, TOWN and Paste Magazines, Egmont, Faber & Faber, and Nickelodeon. Including Monsters in Charleston, he has illustrated dozens of children’s books, including a reimagining of the Wizard of Oz for young readers, There's A Norseman in the Classroom and the classic Enid Blyton series, The Five Finder Outers, for Egmont UK. His illustrations for Nian, The Chinese New Year Dragon, released this year, helped garner a "Reviewer's Choice" Award from Feathered Quill. Around Charleston, his work has adorned Charleston Farmer’s Market, Piccolo Spoleto, Charleston Music Hall and YALLFest.

Born and raised in England, Clare Pernice’s passion for children’s books took root while influenced by her favorite local author Roald Dahl and her witty story telling father. Having an avid interest in the world of children’s stories, art and design, she went on to graduate from London’s Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and has since designed, illustrated and exhibited works in Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Charleston and New York. She has designed children’s books, clothes, toys, murals and has created costumes and props for film and stage and teaches art and design workshops in the States and in Europe.
