Summer Art Camp

For Ages 4-12 and Teens

Join the Gibbes Museum of Art for a great summer of creative fun at our 2017 Summer Art Camp. Work with practicing artists and museum teachers, and create your own fantastic artwork! Sessions will be held at the Gibbes, where campers can explore the summer exhibitions, as well as the Museum’s permanent collection. This summer, young artists can choose from six themes: We Are Illustrators, Lowcountry Wildlife, From France with Love, Absolutely Abstract, Science is Art, and Blast Off to Outer Space. Tuition includes art supplies, hands-on workshops, take-home art projects, museum admission, and snacks. Full-day campers should bring a bagged lunch.

We Are Illustrators, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Students will focus on the familiar works of Eric Carle and Dr. Suess as we create and illustrate our own books! We will use paint, oil pastels, pencil, and collage to make beautiful art that tells a story.

Lowcountry Wildlife, Age 4-7 SOLD OUT
Lowcountry Wildlife, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Campers will create beautiful works of art inspired by Lowcountry animals and wildlife while learning about several indigenous South Carolina species.

June 26-30

From France with Love, Age 4-7 SOLD OUT
From France with Love, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Travel abroad with us as we learn about the art, culture, and landscapes of France! Campers will make art inspired by the techniques and works of famous French artists like Monet, Matisse, Cézanne, and Chagall.

July 10-14

Absolutely Abstract, Age 4-7 SOLD OUT
Absolutely Abstract, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Go crazy this week while we learn about abstract art! Students will use a variety of media to create colorful works of art in the style of famous abstract artists such as Kandinsky, Picasso, Pollock, Klee, and Chagall.

July 17-21

Science is Art, Age 4-7 SOLD OUT
Science is Art, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Come experiment with us as we blend science and art in this exciting week. Campers will create colorful masterpieces using a variety of materials and reactions. We will paint with bubbles, make color mixing volcanoes, mix and mold with plaster, and much more!

July 24-28

Blast Off to Outer Space, Age 4-7 SOLD OUT
Blast Off to Outer Space, Age 8-12 SOLD OUT
Let’s go on an adventure to space together! This week campers will learn about our solar system and beyond while we paint swirling planets, make our own astronaut helmet, imagine our own aliens, and create beautiful sun catchers.

Portrait Study
Campers will study the most striking portraits from the Gibbes permanent collection while participating in gallery sketching and discussion. Also, campers will get a behind-the-scenes look at collection storage in preparation to create a portrait of their own design, subject, and medium.
