The Gibbes summer camp program serves children across the tri-county area and our calendar does not align exactly with any district calendars. Please check your district's schedule and consult our cancellation policy (below) BEFORE registering for any camp session. Full Day Camps for Ages 6-10

June 3-7: Living Wild in the Lowcountry
Young artists will create marvelous works of art inspired by the Lowcountry’s diverse wildlife. Campers will learn elements of art and all about South Carolina’s indigenous species.

June 10-14: Abstract All the Way
Color outside the lines this week as we learn about abstract art! Campers will use a variety of art media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and much more to create colorful works of art in the style of famous abstract artists like Wassily Kandinsky, Alma Thomas, Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee, Marc Chagall, and more.

June 24-28: Mixing It Up
Discover the amazing world of mixed media in this fun art session. Young artists will experiment with different techniques and styles of combining diverse materials together to create amazing works of art.

July 8-12: Journey to Central and South America
Inspired by the work of Cuban artist Reynier Llanes on view at the Gibbes, campers will travel to Central and South America as they study the vibrant artwork and traditions of that region. From Frida Kahlo’s stunning self-portraits to the bright Panamanian molas, young artists will celebrate and recreate the amazing worlds created by these artists.

July 15-19: Under the Sea
Students will dive into the amazing world of marine life while creating ocean-themed art using an array of art techniques. This week, campers will create mixed media art that will be fun and engaging as they learn about ocean habitats and the animals that live there.

July 22-26: Sculpture Exploration
Young artists will use a variety of materials to create sculptures. Creating everything from animals to abstract works, campers will transition drawings to three-dimensional forms to understand how an artist must think about viewing a sculpture from every angle.

July 29-August 2: A Walk in the Park
This week, campers will discover the fascinating world of landscapes. From Charleston Renaissance artists like Alice Ravenel Huger Smith’s serene marshscapes to Van Gogh’s swirling skies to Rousseau’s dreamlike jungles, this week will be like a walk in the park.

Half Day Camps for Ages 4-10

June 3-7 | The Art of Play, Ages 6-8
Join former visiting artist, Daisy McClellan for this exciting week of art and play. We’ll explore various materials and techniques to make objects campers can incorporate into their playtime, like felt travel games, clay toy sculptures, jewelry for dress up time, and more.

June 3-7: Illustration and Storybook Design, Ages 8-10
Join Clare Pernice, author, illustrator, and educator at the Museum of Illustration in New York for this exciting week where campers will create characters while developing their own stories and settings.

June 10-14: Out of the Box, Ages 7-10
Help foster creativity, imagination, and an eco-friendly mindset through interactive play at our newest camp, Out of the Box with former visiting artist Daisy McClellan. Campers will transform cardboard into a range of crafts, toys, games, costumes, and life-sized play structures that guarantee hours of sustainable fun this summer.

June 17-21*: Festivals Around the World, Ages 4-10
Celebrate with art! From Chinese New Year to Indian Holi and the Brazilian Carnival, campers will learn about different festivals and cultural traditions around the world.

June 17-21*: A World of Art 4-10
Pack your bags and join us on an "art"venture around the world and through time. From Australia to Zimbabwe campers will see the world through the eyes of international artists.

June 24-28: Fun with Fiber Art, Ages 7-10
Join former visiting artist, Daisy McClellan as campers explore the world of fiber art. Campers will learn things like latch hook, weaving, sewing, embroidery, various dyeing techniques and more. Kiddos will come home with new handicraft skills to keep them busy all summer long.

Half Day Camps for Ages 11-16

June 17-21*: Oil Painting for Teens, Ages 14-16
Learn the basics of oil painting with former Visiting Artist Beth Williams and expand your artistic horizons. Campers will learn about the properties of working with oil paints, safety procedures of working with different chemicals, and so much more.
1pm – 4pm: $230 Members | $250 Non-Members

July 8-12: Portfolio Builder, Ages 14-16
Is your young artist interested in building their portfolio to apply for art school or other special programs? Are they interested in learning more about specific techniques and building on their existing artistic skills? Join us this week for an intensive camp session designed for serious art students looking to build technical skills.
9am-12pm:  $170 Members | $195 Non-Members

July 15-19: Digital Photography, Ages 14-16
During this camp, teens will learn the basics of photography with close instruction from a professional. Learn how to thoughtfully use your camera to capture meaningful images that they can be proud of. They will practice their creative skills through daily challenges and a curated, styled shoot at the end of the week. NOTE: Students are required to bring their own DSLR camera or digital camera with manual settings. If you do not have one, please reach out to Becca Hiester before registering to discuss some different options for participation.

July 15-19: Weave Here, Weave There with Kristy Bishop, Ages 11-14
Weaving is not an indoor sport, it can go anywhere!  Campers will spend the week learning to weave on back strap looms, rigid heddle looms, and inkle looms which are portable and create amazing patterns.  These looms are simple yet can create complex designs.  Band weaving goes back thousands of years because there are so many uses.  Campers will make chokers, bracelets, shoelaces, purse straps, and artwork!

July 22-26: Fantastic Fibers: Weaving, Knitting, Sewing, Dyeing, and Painting, Ages 11-14
This summer camp is for the textile lover. Campers will spend the week learning the basics or weaving, spool knitting, hand sewing, dyeing, and printing on fabric with past visiting artist Kristy Bishop. Projects could range from printed totes, t-shirts, woven tapestry, knitted fiber jewelry, hand-dyed pillows and so much more!

A 3% credit card fee will apply to all transactions.


Cancellation and Refund Policy

If the student withdraws before 30 business days before the start of camp, tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. Any student who withdraws within 30 days and up to 5 business days before the start of class, will be refunded tuition minus a $50 administrative fee. Students withdrawing from camp within 5 business days of the start of camp will be refunded tuition at half of the registration price. There are no refunds after the start of camp. Credit card and membership fees are nonrefundable.
