Jill Hooper's exposure to classical realism and to the academic figurative style transformed her work and persona. She has studied under noted artists D. Jeffrey Mims, Charles Cecil, and Benjamin Long VI. Hooper has traveled to the deserts of Utah and the museums of London and Vienna, drawing and painting from life and Old Master examples. Her work has exhibited in France, England, and throughout the southeastern United States. Hooper is locally represented by Ann Long Fine Art and currently lives and teaches in London and Charleston.

During her time in the studio at the Gibbes, Hooper will be preparing drawings and cartoons for a 10 x 16 foot fresco which will be painted on site in Jerusalem, Israel. The ancient technique of fresco painting requires numerous sketches and full-scale final drawings used to transfer the design to the painting surface. Hooper will be finalizing the composition of the painting, and grinding pigments with water to prepare the paint colors, each carefully selected to represent the characters in the landscape.
