Tom Stanley's work relies upon personal memory, an interest in contemporary folk art imagery, and hands-on experiences as points of artistic departure. During his residency, Stanley will produce a series of paintings inspired in part by folk and self-taught art, and specifically the current exhibition A Shared Legacy: Folk Art in America. Stanley's work relies upon the simple strength of line, silhouette, and an awareness of symmetry. These are some of the applied visual tools that help create works in A Shared Legacy, in which images and objects represent how utility, whimsy, and available resources informed an authentic aesthetic and an inventiveness.

Stanley is the 2018 recipient of the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Governor's Awards for the Arts—the highest honor the state presents in the arts.

OPEN STUDIO HOURS:

WEDNESDAYS, 5 - 8PM | THURSDAYS, 10AM - 1PM | SATURDAYS, 10AM - 2PM*

(Stanley will not be in the studio March 7 - 8, or March 28)
