Celebrate the Holidays and Enjoy the Gibbes for Free Saturday, Dec. 18 from 10am – 1pm at Community Day

(December 9, 2010 - Charleston, SC) – The Gibbes Museum of Art is pleased to announce a holiday-themed Community Day on Saturday, December 18 with complimentary admission and family activities from 10:00am – 1:00pm. Junior League of Charleston Community Days are held quarterly to offer visitors the opportunity to experience the Gibbes’ dynamic programming free of charge. Museumgoers can enjoy the opening weekend of two special exhibitions Art of Our Time: Selections from the Ulrich Museum of Art and J. Henry Fair: Industrial Scars.
The Celebrations-themed Community Day will include holiday inspired hands-on activities in the galleries throughout the morning. Blessed Sacrament School Children’s Choirs will perform at 10:30am. New York Life Insurance Company will be distributing child identification cards and visitors can anticipate a special appearance by a very, jolly guest!
GIBBES MUSEUM OF ART
Established as the Carolina Art Association in 1858, the Gibbes Museum of Art opened its doors to the public in 1905 in historic Charleston, S.C. The Gibbes houses one of the foremost collections of American Art from the 18th century to the present. The Gibbes is currently undergoing major renovations and will reopen in the spring of 2016. The renovated museum will properly showcase its extensive collections and will feature an admission-free ground floor, providing a place to watch artists at work in studios and stroll through a world-class garden.
