Francis Charles Black

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1832

A native of Beaufort, SC, Black became a Charleston merchant who specialized in importing West Indian products. Listed in the account book for 1832, Black's miniature was painted when the sitter was in his mid-thirties. The long oval format with a simple background seems to have been favored by Fraser for portraits of young men.
