unidentified sitter

Artist: Ramage, John
Date:

Many European miniature painters immigrated to America. John Ramage, via Ireland and London, settled in Boston as a miniature painter and goldsmith. He later moved to New York where he painted the most fashionable men and women. Like the sitters he painted, as with this gentleman, Ramage enjoyed the luxuries of life and was well known for his "beauish" (fancy) style of clothes.
