William Algernon Alston

Shown as a young man, William Algernon Alston acquired Rose Hill Plantation near Georgetown, SC at about the same time the miniature was done. His father, Colonel William "King Billy" Alston, gave him the property as a coming-of-age gift. By his death at age seventy-nine, his holdings included most of the important properties along the Waccamaw River near Georgetown, SC.
