Mrs. Samuel Morris (Rachel Moore)

Artist: Peale, Charles Willson
Date: Before 1827

Charles Wilson Peale was a very active man. He was curious about how things worked and was a jack of many trades. As a painter he enjoyed doing portraits of his family (Mrs. Morris is the sister of Peale's third wife). He was an archaeologist and a taxidermist, as well as an inventor. He pulled all these talents together and set up the earliest museum of art and natural history in America.
