Eugenia Russell married William Thomson in 1755 and she bore him fourteen children. Mrs. Thomson's locket holds her husband's portrait on the reverse. Her portrayal is fuller than his, with her body placed closer to the picture plane. Details of her bonnet and shawl are peripheral to her face which clearly dominates the oval.
