William Robertson

Artist: Thomson, William
Date: 1812

The son of Scotch-American Loyalists, William Thomson was taken to England from Savannah as a child. He is known to have exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1796-1843, and in 1829 he was elected to the Royal Scottish Acadedmy.

The miniature of Robertson is unusual in the profile view of the body with his head turned toward the viewer, and in its brilliant pink hues. The expression verges on being quizzical.
