The sister of the artist, Katherine attended Goucher College and studied voice in New York. Her husband, a distinguished physician, was also a Nobel Prize winner. Katherine has been posed most unusually, with her eyes looking down at the fingers of her right hand. The soft brushwork and pale pink tones contribute to an intimate portrayal.
