A planter from Prince William Parish, McPherson served as the commanding officer of the South Carolina Militia. He was also President of the South Carolina Jockey Club. Fraser's portrait is a direct and forceful portrayal. The stippling is especially noticeable on the face. The miniature is listed in the Fraser account book for 1819 for $50.
