Emma S. Gilchrist

Artist: Unknown American
Date: ca. 1865

The traditional identity of the sitter has been Emma Gilchrist at about age two. In sentiment it compares well to the Carlin miniatures of the Laight and Cottenet children. It is a careful, almost intense portrayal of a young child, which has been charmingly set in a gold locket.
