Captain Thomas Broom

Artist: Metcalf, Eliab
Date: 1816

Broom, a captain in the U.S. Navy, served aboard the Chesapeake. The likeness is a striking portrayal of a handsome young man. The somewhat elongated viewpoint adds dignity to the sitter, while the light pink background is unusual for a naval officer.
