Mrs. Henry Broughton Mazyck (Susan Doughty Gaillard)

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1826

Both Mazyck and his wife were painted in 1826, Fraser receiving $30 for his portrait in the smaller locket size, and $40 for hers. The size discrepancy may be explained by the fact that his likeness was intended to be worn by her. Stylistically, both are freshly rendered, showing Fraser in complete command of the stippling technique. The blue tones of both also harmonize.
