Technically not a miniature because of its relatively large size and less common medium (oil on porcelain instead of watercolor on ivory) this double portrait is an enchanting portrayal of children playing. Collas probably staged the activity and painted the portraits separately, as the children don't interact. While the landscape's rolling hills are quite picturesque, it is not an accurate depiction of South Carolina terrain. It was likely a "stock" background that the artist liked using.
