Reverend Alexander Glennie

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1835

Born in Surrey, England, Glennie came to Plowden Weston's plantation Hagley in 1827 as a tutor. Ten years later he was ordained and became the rector of All Saints Church, Waccamaw. Listed in the account book for 1835, Fraser received $40 for the miniature. Using hairstyles and fashions, Fraser sets the face of the sitter off for emphasis, and poses him frontally for direct contact with the viewer.
