The locket bears the inscription: "Joseph Watson ob 3th January 1799 ae 30 years, " which could have been added well after the portrait was painted. Because the miniature exemplifies several of his characteristics, an attribution to Henri seems correct. The linear cross-hatching in the background is unusual, but the hairstyle, eyes, nose and mouth outlines relate well to the signed portraits by Henri.
