Charles Laight Cottenet(?) or Rawlins Lowndes Cottenet(?)

The exact identity of this young boy has never been established, but the suggestion that he is a child of the Cottenet family seems valid in terms of his dates, the artist and the provenance. Although from a Charleston family, he spent most of his childhood in New York where Carlin might have painted him.
