Mrs. Joshua Lazarus (Phebe Yates)

Artist: D'Aubigny, Amelie Dautel
Date: ca. 1840

Phebe, a native of Liverpool, was the wife of Joshua Lazarus. D'Aubigny has given the fashionable Mrs. Lazarus an almost wistful expression. In contrast to her husbands portrait, the background is solidly painted, while at the same time the face is vividly stippled.
