Governor Paul Hamilton

Although he was young during the Revolutionary War, Hamilton saw action under Generals deKalb, Gates, Marion and Greene. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1787 and 1788 and was a member of the conventions to adopt the federal and state constitutions. From 1800-1804 he successfully performed the duties of Comptroller General of South Carolina, followed by two years as Governor. Appointed by President Madison, he was Secretary of the Navy 1809-1812.
