Thought to have been painted around the time of her marriage to John Izard Middleton, the miniature by Dun captures a youthful Eliza Middleton at the height of her beauty for which she was noted. The soft coloring and careful detailing contribute to a genuinely feminine portrayal. A native of France, Dun also painted in Naples where he worked until his death. He is reknowned for his exacting sense of detail and minute attention to clothes.
