Judge Charles Jones Colcock

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1819

A graduate of Princeton College, Colcock combined a career of law and public service. Admitted to the Bar in 1792, he served as Solicitor of the Southern Circuit (1798), and then in the House of Representatives 1806-1808. He was appointed Judge of the Court of Appeals in 1824. A particularly severe and forceful portrayal, this miniature is not softened by color or handling. "Judge Colcok [sic] . . . $50" is listed in the Fraser account book under 1819.
