Mary Watson, whose maiden name and dates are currently unknown, remarried a Mr. Hunter following Joseph Watson's death. Like the portraits of Mary Grimke and Susannah Drayton, the artist has placed the sitter toward the top and emphasized the hairdo. Mary Watson's expression of reserved sadness is also similar to Henri's other portraits.
