Very possibly the second Engleheart portrait painted of Ralph Stead Izard, this miniature may be a replica of the first with variations: the hair is fuller, especially on the forehead, and the whole characterization is more intensely modelled. It is possible that Engleheart noted the maturing of young lzard, who would have been nineteen in the first portrait.
