Rosamond Miles Pringle

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1839

Rosamond was the daughter of James Reid Pringle. She never married and lived to be ninety-five. In this fresh likeness of a young woman in her mid-teens, Fraser has used an outdoor setting and flowers - which include jasmine, pansies, and roses - to enliven the portrait and perhaps to allude to the sitter's name. She's listed in Fraser's account book in the year 1839: "Miss Rosa Pringle . . . $50."
