Reverend Charles Blair Snowden

Artist: Fraser, Charles
Date: 1819

A graduate of Yale College in 1804, Snowden became rector of St. Stephen's Parish in 1810, where he served for seven years. He then ministered to congregations in the Pineville, SC area. The influence of Malbone continued in the first miniatures Fraser did as a professional. In particular, the cross-hatched background relates to Malbone's treatment. In 1819 Fraser painted a portrait of Mr. Snowden for $50, as recorded in the Fraser account book.
