Art is the reason.

The Gibbes Museum will welcome the spring season with a stunning tented luncheon for over 300 guests at the Gibbes Women’s Council’s annual Art of Design Luncheon and Lecture in the beautiful Lenhardt Garden.

For nearly 70 years, the Gibbes Museum of Art Women’s Council has been a vital support group for the Museum.  Its signature Art of Design Luncheon and Lecture has generated over $450,000 to support education and outreach programs since it began eight years ago. “We are indebted to our Women’s Council for their generosity and support provided through this phenomenal program,” says Executive Director Angela Mack. “Each year they set the bar higher by bringing internationally renowned experts in the world of design to Charleston, and we look forward to welcoming the fabulous Plum Sykes!”

Plum Sykes, born in London and educated at Oxford University, will be the featured speaker.  She is a contributing editor for American Vogue and has written two bestselling novels.  Her experiences reporting on the lifestyles of the rich and famous gave her the inspiration for her first book, Bergdorf Blondes, published in 2004 and on the New York Times bestseller list for 16 weeks.  Her second novel, Debutante Divorcee, published in 2006, was also a best seller.  Her third novel, Party Girls Die in Pearls, published in May 2017 will be available to purchase at the Art of Design event.
