A Return to the Grand Tour Symposium

Accompanying the opening of the exhibition A Return to the Grand Tour: Micromosaic Jewels from the Collection of Elizabeth Locke, the Gibbes Museum will bring together experts, scholars, and the collector herself to discuss the Grand Tour of the nineteenth century and the era’s fascination with the classics and societal requisite travel to the “cradle of western civilization.” Featuring jewelry designer and collector Elizabeth Locke, Susan Rawles, associate curator of American painting and Decorative Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and Angela D.
