The Gibbes Museum and Charleston Jazz are teaming up for our third summer music series, with original compositions inspired by works on view at the Gibbes. Enjoy a specialty cocktail crafted by 5 Church* and listen to some of Charleston's most talented musicians. Richard White is one of the most dynamic pianists and composers in the Charleston area. A native of St. Louis, Missouri, he studied classical piano from age 7 to 17 and was introduced to jazz by his father before high school. White has performed in Victoria, British Columbia and recently completed a successful international jazz tour. He has opened for many famous artists such as Branford Marsalis, Will Downing, Brian McKnight and Alex Bugnon. He has played locally with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, the Charlton Singleton Quintet, and the Charleston Symphony that featured vocalist Ellis Hall. White will be joined by Brett Belanger on bass and David Patterson on Drums, two of Charleston’s finest jazz musicians, to kick off our ‘Art of Jazz’ series! *For the second year in a row, 5Church is excited to be on board as the hospitality partner, creating complimentary specialty cocktails designed specifically for the 2019 Art of Jazz performances. This event is SOLD OUT. The Art of Jazz is sponsored by the Kite Foundation, Art Bridges, the Gibbes Women's Council, the Joseph J. Schott Foundation, Lowcountry Quarterly Arts Grant program, 5 Church, and Hyams Garden Center.
