Artist Talk: Tom Stanley

March 13, 2018 @ 12:00 AM

Gibbes Museum of Art

During his residency at the Gibbes, Tom Stanley will produce a series of paintings inspired in part by folk and self-taught art, and specifically the current exhibition A Shared Legacy: Folk Art in America. Stanley’s work relies upon the simple strength of line, silhouette, and awareness of symmetry—also common visual tools found in American folk art. The artist will speak about his work and process by which he creates something he has never seen before.
