Kentucky-born cellist, songwriter and activist Ben Sollee will kick off our concert series in the Lenhardt Garden with songs from his recent release "Ben Sollee and Kentucky Native" (Release date: August 11). The Gibbes is partnering with the Charleston Music Hall to bring outstanding live music performances to the Lenhardt Garden. Bring a picnic (adult beverages permitted) and a lawn chair and arrive early to find a spot—or reserve one of our premium tables—and enjoy a plein-air performance under the setting sun. Sollee’s music is difficult to pin down. Following a performance at the Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series, the New York Times remarked how Sollee’s “...meticulous, fluent arrangements continually morphed from one thing to another. Appalachian mountain music gave way to the blues, and one song was appended with a fragment from a Bach cello suite, beautifully played.” Solle will perform with his band Kentucky Native, which includes longtime collaborator Jordon Ellis (percussion), Julian Pinelli (fiddle) and Bennett Sullivan (banjo). Doors open at 6pm and concert begins at 7pm. $25 Members | $35 Non-Members | $500 Reserved tables of 10 *Seating is not provided except at the reserved tables, so please bring your own lawn chair or picnic blanket. Charleston Moves will be on site to provide free bike parking. Also, be sure to stop by their table at the concert for updates on initiatives, and to pick up a Connected Charleston yard sign, a membership, and a cool summer tank top! What's more, receive $5 OFF Ben Sollee merchandise and a $1-OFF drink voucher when you ride your bike to the event. The Coastal Conservation League will be at the Gibbes as well to share information about their work to protect the natural landscapes, abundant wildlife, clean water, and quality of life here in South Carolina.
