Birding on Bulls is a special expedition to celebrate the exhibit Lying in Wait: Sporting Art by Odgen M. Pleissner. Join Coastal Expeditions owner Chris Crolley on a special expedition to Bulls Island for an Ogden Pleissner-inspired day of naturalizing and birding on Saturday, March 2. Exploring landscapes that have remained virtually unchanged since the time that Bulls Island was a sportsman’s winter getaway, you’ll get the opportunity to see some of the nearly 300 bird species that have been categorized in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. After a ferry ride through the estuary, we’ll embark on a 6-7 mile hike of the interior of the island to see winter migrant waterfowl like pintail, widgeon and buffleheads from viewing platforms tucked along the edges of freshwater impoundments. Chris will share the natural and human history of the island, expounding on how Pleissner would have experienced similar landscapes during his time in South Carolina. Expect to see 50+ bird species as well as other wildlife like American alligators, bottlenose dolphins, fox squirrels and possibly bobcats on this day-long expedition. $40 Adults Departure Location
