Max (Macky) L. Hill, III, a recognized expert in historic preservation and Lowcountry architectural history, will speak about Middleburg Plantation House and Pompion Hill Chapel. Middleburg was built in 1697-99 by Huguenot immigrant Benjamin Simons, and from 1981-2015 Hill's family members were the owners and stewards of the plantation. Pompion Hill, a chapel of ease for St. Thomas and St. Denis Parish, was built in 1765 on land donated by Benjamin Simons and Josias DuPre, and Hill has been a member of the Vestry of Pompion Hill Chapel for 25 years. The lecture will be followed by light refreshments and a book signing of The Huguenot Church in Charleston. Attendees will have the opportunity to win a tour of the Miles Brewton House for 6-12 guests.
