Class meets Wednesdays, October 12, 19, and 26 from 6-8pm. Learn a tested, effective approach to painting and drawing portraits. All levels are welcome. Explore value based “light on form” painting methods to create expressive portraits from a live model. You will work on salient drawing and painting exercises as well as completed portraits during the class. Students will gain a deeper understanding of observable values to achieve form, character and likeness. Supplies: Assorted oil brushes (Soft filberts, flats, and Hogs hair filberts), 2 16x20 inch canvases, oil paint (Titanium White, Alizarin Crimson, Burnt Umber, Black, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow), small jar of linseed oil, small jar of Turpenoid, small jar of clove oil, sketchbook, charcoal (vine and compressed), palette, rags or paper towels, palette knives, brush cleaner (like Turpenoid)* *Supplies are available at Artist and Craftsman in Charleston.
