Tour and Reception of the South Carolina Historical Society Fireproof Building

October 30, 2019 @ 12:00 AM

Gibbes Almeida Lecture Hall

Please join us for a reception in the Gibbes' Almeida Lecture Hall, before and after a tour of the South Carolina Historical Society Fireproof Building on Wednesday, October 30, from 4:30 - 7:00. The Fireproof Building, was designed by Robert Mills, who is more famous as the architect of the Washington Monument. This structure is an architectural treasure because it is the oldest fireproof building in America. Designed and built in 1826, it now houses the museum for the SCHS and features interactive exhibitions on the people, places and movements that shaped our state and nation. We hope you can join us for this event which will feature a curator led tour of the Fireproof Building. Please wear proper footwear as we will be walking from the Gibbes across Meeting Street to the SCHS building for our tour. This event is for Women's Council Members only.
