Former Visiting Artist, Robin Howard, returns to the Gibbes Museum Ruth and Bill Baker Art Sales Gallery to showcase her solo exhibition, Peace Objects.

Robin Howard (b. 1972) is an American assemblage artist from Charleston, South Carolina. Born in rural Indiana, she grew up deeply immersed in nature, animals, and her dad’s wood shop.
After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Anthropology and studying papermaking at Columbia College in Chicago, she began combining organic materials, a self-developed code of symbols, and traditional art and craft techniques into assemblages with themes that range from whimsical to otherworldly.
During her 30-year career, Howard has exhibited her work internationally in venues that range from traditional gallery settings to art hotels and store window displays.

Artist Statement

Peace Objects explores the balance of motion and stillness, something-ness and nothing-ness, striving and contentment. Intentionally non-representational, the sculptures offer the eyes and mind a place to rest. Driven by a conviction to live much more simply, through these works, I’m exploring the concept that peace is a more worthy pursuit than happiness, and what isn’t there may be as important as what is
