CHARLESTON, S.C., March 11, 2019 – The Gibbes Museum of Art is pleased to announce the spring lineup of their Garden Concert Series, which brings outstanding live music performances to the Gibbes’ Lenhardt Garden. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy a plein-air performance under the setting sun. Performances this spring include a jazz quintet and an all-female group paying homage to soulful singer Sam Cooke.
Students from the Allegro Charter School of Music will perform as guests arrive to the event. The Allegro School prepares students in grades 6-12 for the pursuit of creative work in any field, using music as a medium to inspire and foster creativity.

We are thrilled to be partnering with other Charleston art institutions, the Charleston Music Hall and the Allegro School for this exciting annual event,” said Angela Mack, The Gibbes Museum of Art’s executive director. “Music enhances the creative process and we hope that the Gibbes can be a place where visitors can enjoy and be inspired by many different art forms.”

Charlton Singleton Quintet, April 17
The Charlton Singleton Quintet draws from the traditional style of Jazz but incorporates Mr. Singleton’s own compositions into a set that includes Jazz standards and popular tunes.
• Time: 6:30-8:00 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm with an opening performance by students from the Allegro Charter School of Music.
• Location: Lenhardt Garden at the Gibbes Museum, 135 Meeting St.
• Price: $20 members | $25 Non-Members
Women & Sam Cooke, May 8
The Women & series is the brainchild of local musicians Lindsay Holler and Hazel Ketchum. This show will consist of a 90-minute set with a variety of vocalists paying homage to the late American singer, songwriter, and civil-rights activist Sam Cooke.
• Time: 6:30-8:00 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm with an opening performance by students from the Allegro Charter School of Music.
• Location: Lenhardt Garden at the Gibbes Museum, 135 Meeting St.
• Price: $20 members | $25 Non-Members
Ticket price includes admission to the museum. There will be a cash bar on site and chairs are available for rent for a $5 additional charge. Tables of ten are available for event sponsors.
