DATE CHANGE:

Distinguished Lecture feat. Spike Lee Now October 15

Due to an unforeseen scheduling change, this event will now be held on Oct. 15, ahead of the original date of Oct. 22.

Tickets will still go on sale to the general public on Monday, August 19 as planned. The Gibbes looks forward to enjoying the company of Mr. Lee a week earlier and is excited to share an engaging discussion about his work, inspirations and vast art collection with the Charleston community.

Tickets already purchased through the member pre-sale will automatically transfer to the new date. If you cannot attend the new date, you can request a full refund by emailing [email protected]. Refund requests will close Sept. 13 at 3pm. After this time, refunds will not be allowed.

The Gibbes Museum of Art is pleased to announce Spike Lee, Academy Award-winning filmmaker and respected art collector, as its 2024 Distinguished Lecture Series keynote speaker. This announcement comes on the heels of the auteur’s recent exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum Spike Lee: Creative Sources, which offered a rare glimpse into Lee’s personal collection of art and inspiration. Audience members can expect to learn more about the influence of the visual arts on the filmmaker and, in turn, his influence on visual art and culture. The Gibbes Distinguished Lecture series is founded by Esther Ferguson and designed to bring thought leaders of art and culture to Charleston.

Tickets go on sale to the public Aug 19; pre-sale for members happens on Aug 1-18.
