Full Day camps for Ages 6-10
June 2 – 6: Nature’s Palette
Campers create art inspired by the natural world, including landscapes, animals, and plants. Activities will involve outdoor sketching, leaf pressing, and using natural materials like stones and twigs to create art.

June 9 – 13: Art Camp Fantasy
This week we’re diving into the world of dragons, fairies, and other fantastical creatures. Campers will use their imagination to the fullest as they imagine a world where art has no boundaries.

June 23 – 27: Art HERstory
This week we’re celebrating women artists from around the world! From artists in the Gibbes collection like Kara Walker and Anna Heyward Taylor to those celebrated in other museums like Frida Kahlo, Yayoi Kusama, and Georgia O’Keeffe, this week campers will learn about these amazing artists while creating unique works of art inspired by their techniques.

July 7 – 11: Journey to Central and South America
Campers will travel to Central and South America as they study the vibrant artwork and traditions of that region. From Reynier Llanes’s coffee paintings to Maya architectural wonders and bright Panamanian molas, young artists will celebrate and recreate the amazing worlds created by these artists.

July 14 – 18: I Love the Lowcountry
At the Gibbes we love so about the Lowcountry! From artists to the wonderful surroundings we call home, campers will develop their own unique brand of creativity. With artists like Jonathan Green, William H. Johnson, Mary Whyte, and Mary Jackson (just to name a few), the Lowcountry has been home to amazing artists over the years.

July 21 – 25: The Third Dimension
Young artists will use a variety of materials to create sculptures and works with 3D elements. Creating everything from animals to abstract works, campers will transition drawings to three-dimensional forms to understand how an artist must think about viewing a sculpture from every angle.

July 28 – August 1: Mix It Up!
Discover the amazing world of mixed media in this fun art session. Young artists will experiment with different techniques and styles of combining diverse materials together to create amazing works of art.

Join Clare Pernice, author, illustrator, and educator at the Museum of Illustration in New York for this exciting week where campers will create characters while developing their own stories and settings.

June 16-18*: Wild About Art!, Ages 4-10
Bring out the creative wild side in your camper this week with art that’s all about animals!

**If campers are registered for both the morning and afternoon session they will be able to stay for the entire day.
June 16-18*: Summer STEAM, Ages 4-10
We’re heating up the summer with arts-integrated science experiments and creating art using unusual techniques that spark scientific thinking.

July 7 – 11: Braided Gullah Rag Dolls with Cookie Washington, Ages 4-6
Inspired by the exhibition Picturing Freedom: Harriet Tubman and the Combahee River Raid (May-October 2025) and works in the permanent collection, campers will make traditional Gullah rag dolls using simple knotting techniques.

July 14 - 18: The Art of Play, Ages 6-8
Join former visiting artist, Daisy McClellan for this exciting week of art and play. We’ll explore various materials and techniques to make objects campers can incorporate into their playtime, like felt travel games, clay toy sculptures, jewelry for dress up time, and more.

July 21 - 25: Fun With Fiber Art, Ages 7-10
Join former visiting artist, Daisy McClellan as campers explore the world of fiber art. Campers will learn things like latch hook, weaving, sewing, embroidery, various dyeing techniques and more. Kiddos will come home with new handicraft skills to keep them busy all summer long.

July 28 – August 1: “Ashley’s Sack” with Cookie Washington, Ages 6-8
Campers will learn the story of Ashley’s sack, a Black family keepsake that was handed down through three generations of Black women. In 1850s South Carolina, an enslaved woman named Rose faced a crisis: the imminent sale of her daughter Ashley. Thinking quickly, she packed a cotton bag for her with a few items, and, soon after, the nine-year-old girl was separated from her mother and sold. Students will hand sew their own sack to hand down and discuss objects they might need or want to share.

Is your young artist interested in building their portfolio to apply for art school or other special programs? Are they interested in learning more about specific techniques and building on their existing artistic skills? Join us for an intensive camp session designed for serious art students looking to build technical skills.

June 23 - 27: Oil Painting for Teens, Ages 14-16
Learn the basics of oil painting with former Visiting Artist Beth Williams and expand your artistic horizons. Campers will learn about the properties of working with oil paints, safety procedures of working with different chemicals, and so much more.
