Watercolor Study: Resist Techniques with Martha Criscuolo, Ages 10+

October 28, 2017 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Gibbes Museum of Art

Class Canceled. This class is an opportunity to explore the watercolor medium with a focus on masking methods to produce a rich and complex design. After viewing the exhibit Mexico and the Charleston Renaissance, we will focus on the play of positive/negative imagery used by William Halsey in his Two Mayan Women – Yucatan. Although Halsey created the contrast with oil paint, students will learn to use masking fluid and tape in a watercolor painting to create areas of light and/or focus. Students will design and sketch an original composition in class1, use principles of design to apply masking materials to the piece in class 2, and finish the work with watercolor and remove masking in class 3. All materials included.

Members $80 | $90 Non-Members
