The Daniel West Fraser Scholarship Fund was established by family and friends to honor the memory of the son of artist West Fraser. The fund serves to fulfill the Gibbes’ commitment to provide scholarship funding for art camps and classes to deserving, talented students from area schools who are recommended by their teachers.
This year, four scholarship recipients joined our teen summer camps. One student, Autumn Bosier, wrote an open thank you letter to all of our scholarship supporters. Thank you so much for your continued commitment to educating young and deserving artists.
I would like to thank the Scholarship donors for granting me this opportunity to enhance my art skills and abilities. I have enjoyed learning about different forms of art like sculpture and textiles. The first week was about sculpture where we made three different sculptures, and we could either add them to one another or leave it standing alone. We could use only one color for each piece. We also had a little research assignment on a famous sculptor and I had Pearl Fryar. I had to find one piece of his that I really enjoyed to share with the class. Then the second week was about textiles and we were given fabric to dye in many different styles, such as abstract design. As the week went on we explored the works of sewing and making pillows, pouches, bags, etc. On Friday we made final pieces to show to other fellow campers and other classes. I really enjoyed making new friends and investigating many different art techniques.
