Class meets for three sessions on Wednesday, August 8, 15, and 22 from 6-8PM. Build on your previous oil- or acrylic-based painting skills with Stephen Herchak. Techniques include sketching and blocking the composition onto the surface, building color, establishing shadows, and other steps to create naturalistic paintings. Students are encouraged to bring photos to reference.

Suggested supplies: Choice of oil or acrylic basic set of paint in tubes (colors listed below); variety of medium soft round and stiff flat brushes; palette knife; palette or mixing tray; pack of index cards; blending/extender medium for acrylic or odorless turpentine/paint thinner and linseed oils for oil; stretched and primed canvas, board or paper for media selected and soft pencil or charcoal for sketching; rags; wide mouth jar with tight sealing lid; reference photo from which to work

Paint colors: Black, White, bright red (such as Cadmium or Crimson), deep green (such as Phthalo or Hookers), a deep blue (such as Ultramarine or Cobalt), Cerulean blue, Yellow, Yellow ochre, Burnt umber, Raw sienna.

Remember, paint can get messy so either wear paint clothes or bring a smock.
